    Unhappy Tube Stress for heat exchanger.

    Hey guys,

    I'd so appreciate if someone could help me. I need to determine the min thickness of a tube exposed to an extenal or internal pressure in a double tube heat exchanger. I encounter this problem a lot of time those past few weeks.

    Does anyone has a little software able to calculate those kind of value? Especially for 316L, 304L and titane tubes.

    Otherwise, do you know a complete software which could allow me to calculate that thickness?

    Really, I'm desperate . I researching mainly for a CODAP 2005 or EN 13480 design code but even as ASME it'd be just great! ^^

    Thank you a lot in advance if you can adduce me any help.

    Anyone has a clue to help me?

    I found a way to calculate the pipe thickness exposed to an internal pressure. As the following:

    thickness=P.Do/(2.f.z+P)

    When P = design pressure
    Do = outside diameter
    f = global elasticity
    z = joint coefficient

    But i'm still looking for help when the pipe is exposed to an external pressure.

    Please help me ^^

    You can use formulae specified in ASME Section VIII, div-1 (UG-27 or Appd-1 for internal pressure & UG28 for external pressure).

    Various softwares available are: PV Elite, Compress, etc...

    Thanks.

    Alright I'll try that thank you A LOT!

    Does any freeware exist for that kind of calculation? I just need a simple software to calculate thickness for external and internal pressure.

    Even an excel sheet could be just awesome! ^^

    thank you in advance.

    Morest

    Are you talking about an exchanger not of the shell and tube but one with an INNER tube and and OUTER tube ??

    So something similar to A jacketed pipe

    In French = 2 tubes concentriques

    Because if this is the case , then there are also other consideration

    Hey Fathi,

    In fact yes I mainly was looking for those informations for a double tube heat exchanger but I thought if I could get the info for any case I could've made it for another case.

    Thumbs up

    There is a book on this site
    title = Applying the ASME codes

    they are in fact into two volumes , in volume 2 , there is a dedicated chapter about jacketed pipes , which you can probably apply to your case

    Great book.

    Now I know exactly what I need. It's a excel sheet which allows me to calculate A and B without wasting a lot of time getting it on the table. If someone has that kind of stuff it'd be so awesome. thanks in advance guys.
