  1. Regular and Irregular type grids in reservoir simulation

As I am beginner to Reservoir Simulation, therefore my questions some times can be childish.

My Question is related to two figures that are attached with this thread. Fig 1 shows regular grids and fig 2. shows irregular grids.

I can understand that irregular grids are designed on the basis of subsurface structures, but how these irregular grids are made in Eclipse simulator??? Whenever I input any number of grids in data file, always regular shaped grids are formed. I am curious about this.

Any help in this matter please.

    Thanks..........

ibtisam01, models such the one in figure 2 are not constructed in Eclipse, they are constructed by geologist in Petrel (or any other similar software). Although you can built simple models in Eclipse (such the one in fig 1), it can not be used to construct models such the one in fig 2; Eclipse is simply not intended for building geological models.

    Thanks for the Clarification .

But can you aslo please mention how geological models are inserted in Eclipse data files? I have got few Eclipse data files in which Dimensions of the grid are inserted in the data files but whenever I run these data files, these dimensions dont appear on the model and some what geological model is appeared.

    Thanks.

Re: Regular and Irregular type grids in reservoir simulation

Complex grid block geometries such as the one you attached in fig2 are imported from Petrel (or any other similar software, being Petrel the most well-known in the industry) to Eclipse in a text file describing the coordinate position in space plus depth of every corner of each grid block in the model (8 corners per block). Read more about Corner Point Geometry and take a look at the attached files.
