    In my opinion:
Etank is good, because it shows the steps and the formula
Tank on the other side is easy to use ..but confusing when using wind (up lift wind) and earthquake

Both softwares are not 100% ok ..when designing roofs..this part must be treated by hand calcs or STAAD or other software for structural

at least my experience..a bit subjective..

Thank you very much for your kindness!

I have used Etank2000 (be carefull because Etank as the codes outdated, but recommend very much the software from Innovative Tank Solutions.

Much easier to use, with SI units, reports much nicer and easy to understand, and the Codes are up to date. The software as already API650 12th edition.

Ask for a demo and try.

    Kind Regards

    Alex,

What about roof structure design and calculations in Etank 2000, It is available? It is possible.,

    Please let me know..

    Dear duazo2009,

E-tank and Tank can do what API 650 considers as formulas.
API 650 does not introduce formulas for roof calculation, except self-sustained roofs. Or, better said, there are in API 650 few formulas referring to plates thickness but not for beams which sustain the plates.
E-tank additionally introduced column sustained roof formulas from books- so using them it would be the question of validation of such approach. I mean that calculation is OK but it isn't really an API calculation.
No chance to calculate by such software a more complicated roof structure, let's say a dome structure.

What about floating roof? It is capable?

  12. Re: Software Etank2000 or Coade Tank 3.5

The calculations on ETANK are in Imperial units only (input, output and calculations). There are only an utility from Etank Programmers to conver the Output in SI units.

For roofs, they have the self supporting dommes, umbrellas, conical, and also open tanks. Does not have external floating roofs calcs, neither ITS or Tank from Intergraph.

For structure supported roofs, Etank as only for the conical roofs. The calculation model is based in the Brownell and Young method, please see attached file.

But, generally, as already said in here, it is better to design the structure in a separated structural program, for example, Robot or SAP, generally because of the local regulations. Here in Europe we have Eurocodes and this tipe of structures as to be design according this Eurocodes.

    georg22,

the book is “Process Equipment Design” from Brownell & Young’s. I only have this extract of this book.
