Thread: Estimation of flow rate

  1. Estimation of flow rate

    Hi guys,
Is there any way to estimate well flow rate from well head pressure? I have a gas condensate reservoir; gas rate coming from several wells is measured on production platform so I have cumulative production rate of all wells on the platform. I only know the well head pressure of each well and want to estimate production rate of each well on the platform.
Thanks in advance for your help.

    Re: Estimation of flow rate

    Arm,

You could use a P vs Q curve. This is usually obtained by running a multirate test on the well, and to be valid the multirate should be recent.

    regards,

Give me wellhead pressure, temperature, gas specific gravity and choke size (in millimeters) of each well and I'll calculate for you gas rates.

There is common Russian practice to calculate gas rates from pressures on orifice meters based on critical flow equation, with some assumptions it can be applied to wellhead pressures and chokes. Relative error of this method about 0.5-1 %, so it provides fairly good results.

Thanks for your reply. Can you let me know the method you are using. It seems interesting.
    Thanks in advance.

    Elgharib,
Thanks for your reply. In fact I have separator test in some the wells. I can use P-Q curve for these wells. I have the separator test only once a year (at best condition) and in a few wells on the platform. As you know it's a little bit challenging to extend the p-q curve to the rest of the time periods.
