The procedure is qualified to weld with the same P no. and with same / different Group no. if the construction does not required impact testing.

  5. QW-403.5

In addition, when base metals of two different P-Number Group Number combinations are qualified using a single test coupon, that coupon qualifies the welding of
those two P-Number Group Numbers to themselves as well as to each other using the variables qualified.
This variable does not apply when impact testing of the heat-affected zone is not required by other Sections.

    Interpretations:

    Subject: Section IX, QW-403.5

A welding procedure qualification is made using the following combination of base metals P-No.1 Gr-No.1 to P-No.1 Gr.2. The client specification requires impact testing only for P-No.1 Gr-No.1 materials
(in the weld metal and heat affected zone). For procedure qualification purposes,is the impact testing only required in the weld metal and in the heat affected zone on the P-No.1 Gr-No.1 base metal side?

Reply: Impact tests are conducted when required by other ASME Sections.

Does the procedure qualification test coupon qualify the welding of P-No.1 Gr-No.1 base metal to any other P-No.1 base metal not to be impact tested using the variables qualified?

    Reply: Yes

    Interpretation: VIII-1-95-06

    Subject: Section VIII D1

Question: A procedure qualification test consisting of P-No.1 Group No.1 material welded to P-No.1 Group No.2 material meets the impact toughness criteria for the weld and heat affected
zones under UG-84(h)(2)(a). Can this test plate support the production welding of P-No.1 Group No.1 to P-No.1 Group No.1, P-No.1 Group No.2 to P-No.1 Group No.2, and P-No.1 Group No.1 to
P-No.1 Group No.2 materials, assuming all other applicable requirements of the Code have been met?

    Reply: Yes.
