Thread: Request of Hydraulic fracturing procedure

  1. Request of Hydraulic fracturing procedure

    I am looking for procedures on relation to the hydraulic fracturing operation mainly in relation to the reservoir aspects.
    For examples the special logs and the special core analysis that we should do if we have the intention to fracture a well.

    Regards,

    As far as reservoir info goes, beside the expected information required such as perm etc, you also need an idea of;
    - likely frac height - this is usually governed by shale barriers, so simple gamma ray log will often be able to give you an idea of this
    - Proximity to to fluid contacts - you usually want to avoid fraccing into water or up into gas (if oil is the target for example)
    - formation temp -> will shape what sorts of fluids and breakers will be used
    - Youngs modulus and Poisson's ratio of the rock - either from core tests, or I'm sure they'd be some log that could infer them (don't know which, probably sonic related). Accurate Poisson's ratio is not super important, but Youngs modulus has direct effect on frac width for a given net pressure - it is often a matching parameter during calibration fracs. Additionally, low Youngs modulus formations can exhibit undue proppant flowback post frac if you don't tail in with resin coated prop or take alternate mitigation strategy.

    That should be enough to get you started. There are many books that go into frac design in great detail, one I would recommend is "Reservoir Stimulation - 3rd Edition" by Economides & Nolte - both of whom I've had the pleasure of meeting :-)

  5. Thank you my friend by what I am looking for is a procedure and standard like those developed by ENI (AGIP) I have thier procedure for well test, completion .... but I don't have for hydrauling fracture and in my departement they asked us to write a procedure
    waitting for yours help and thanks in advance

    Can we do hydrolic fracturing via Coil tubing job?

    Yes, but there are pros and cons. On plus side you can do 'pinpoint' style fracs targeting multiple stacked sands with multiple staged fracs. On minus side it is expensive, and you are limited in rate and pressure

    thank you.
    what software do you recommend for hydrolic fracturing design using coil tubing?

    Probably best to leave design to your friendly service company, but if you felt you absolutely had to you could use a tool like FracCADE
