What's the best location to post files?

I'm willing to share, and I used to use "www.ifile.it", but the web site isn't up anymore. I've also seen were people have used a drop box, but I don't want to use my personal drop box for posting files. I also don't understand how someone is able to post files in a drop box, where anyone can get to them without an invitation...how does that work?
