    Oil well location

hi everybody. i am new at reservoir engineering. my question is how can i decide new well location, with the help of 4 other wells data drilled at the same formation. from these wells i have permeability, water saturation, porosity and formation thickness values. which of these parameters are most important while deciding a new well location. i need to drill my new well between two of that 4 wells. Tks

    Re: Oil well location

The 5th (new) well will be called Development well. Since you have the data for previous wells, you correlate the gathered data with seismic data like depths, permeability, porosity, saturation etc., and develop maps and simulation model. this work is done in conjunction with g&g team.

Using this simulation model, you place the well where it less interfere the production of other wells, gives maximum production, over all recovery from the reservoir is maximum.

    hope it helps,

    Re: Oil well location

    Hi,
I am a student at the university and I am currently doing my research in the enhanced oil recovery using carbon dioxide as an injection medium. I am using Schlumberger Eclipse reservoir simulation software for this purpose. I followed the tutorial number 1 exactly and got all the plots on the oil production, water injection/production and gas injection but I am want to know if I am using miscible CO2 injection, as I am not sure which gas injection I am considering, can anyone tell me how can I run the model as a miscible CO2, or what changes I have to do in the case definition section of the data manager module.
Furthermore, the tutorial already runs with one gas injection well, 08 oil production wells and 10 water injection wells. How can I change the position of the wells, as the position of the wells on the reservoir is fixed? I think I can change the position of the water injection and oil production wells in the Schedule section, in the well specification data already inputted by the tutorial, but I am not sure, which values should I consider. I want to change the position of the wells, and run different scenarios of CO2 injection so as to get the maximum amount of oil production profile curve within a prescribed simulation time by changing the position of wells.

Yes, in SCHEDULE You can change the location of the well in item 1 and item 2 of WELSPECS or WELLSPEC keyword as (i , j). To change completion interval, use COMPDAT, item 3 and item 4 as K1 and K2.

    Hi Bilal,
Thank you so much for your help on changing the welspecs section, I wanted to ask you two question from you:
    1. Can you please tell me what does changing the completing interval means?, COMPDAT?, what values should I consider for this if I want to change the interval, since I am totally new to eclipse, thats why I want to get a clear idea.
    2. How can I run the tutorial 1 of the eclipse software as a miscible gas flood model, or what options should I select to run it as a miscible gas flood, as I am not sure which gas injection I am considering, what changes I have to do in the case definition/case defination manager/PVT section of the data manager module, should I select only Miscible gas flood in this section. Also in the PVT section/data manager module, should I select only the miscible gas flood option in this section.
    king regards

1 . Changing completion interval means you are changing the payzone height open to wellbore.
    2. Eclipse offer Miscible flood option (which is actually modified Black Oil simulation) it requires gravity of injection gas in PVT section. For details See Chapter on Miscible Flood in ECLIPSE technical description manual.
Second option is using ECLIPSE Compositional Simulator. As a starter this may be difficult for you.

    Re: Oil well location

    Hi Bilal,
Thanks, I was able to change the position of the wells with your help, but I am a bit stuck on how to use the model as a miscible gas CO2, since I am using a black oil model, I read the technical manual, but didnot understood it properly, I wanted to ask you if I can select the Miscible option in the attachment I have forwarded you with this message, it is circled in red. If I select that option, does that means I am using the Miscible CO2 in my simulation or what should I do, would really appreciate your help in this.

    Re: Oil well location

Checking this option will assume that you are injecting gas which has ω times miscibility with your oil. Gas type is ambiguous; it can be any gas.

    Re: Oil well location

    Hi Bilal,

Thanks for reply, can you please let me know, how can I make it to inject CO2 miscible flood, as I did went through the technical description manual but found it quite difficult to understand, I am just a beginner for using Eclipse, I know how to use Eclipse, as I successfully did the entire tutorial and got all the plots, but I just want to use the tutorial one to use it for a specific gas, and in my case only CO2 miscible, may be you can just outline a few steps, which I should follow in order to run my model as CO2 miscible

    Re: Oil well location

you would need to perform EOS matching in PVTi or anyother PVT module like PVTp, PVTSim so on.
It will require you to have experimental information available like Constant composition expansion test, Differential Liberation test, Swelling Test. Once regression is done on experimental results, export the information as *.PVO file.
Then you would need to have information of Minimum Miscibility pressure. (You may run Slim Tube Simulation in ECLIPSE compositional to estimate it)
Import *.pvo file into your PROPS section of *.data file and run the simulation using E300 option.

    Re: Oil well location

    Hi Bilal,
I wanted to ask you, how can I change the water injection well and gas injection well time, I want to change the number of days, for example, after such days the water injection should start. I was searching the Schedule section of Eclipse, but was unable to find this category.
    regards
