Hi,

I'm a student, working on develop an oilfield

I'm struggling on calculate the production profiles, actually I got the STOIIP, EUR, number of wells and some of the reservoir and fluid properties

Now I'm trying to put a production plan but I don't know how to calculate the initial production rate, for how long we will produce before we start to use secondary recovery method (plateau production) and the decline factor.

Any assist will be appreciated

Not sure whether it is your graduate thesis, project work or undergrad work.

If you have offset well data, or analogous well data, then you can estimate your IP, decline factor, water cut, field life, EUR/well, drainage area, PVT from offset well data. If no offset well, ask Geo or check the data with similar geology/ depositional environment. eg. If the reservoir is shallow, Jurassic, low GOR oil, find a similar analogous well/ field. That data would be useful to justify your project.

A lot of options and it all depends on the level of complexity and experience.

(1) Easiest way, if you have IPM PETEX software, use Prosper to get a feel of your IP (Initial Production) then use the well counts to create a production profiles in Excel. Cumulative Production to justify your EUR and Economic cut-off.
(2) Use PROSPER to generate a generic well with your PVT parameters and generate lift curves for various Water Cuts then exported for MBAL. In MBAL, create Material Balance model using PVT, your STOIIP then generate production profiles.
(3) If you have a static model, or surface mapping, build a conceptual model with reservoir simulation. Again, a lot of unknowns and no production history to match but it will give you credible Simulation model that some people might expect :-)

i would also suggest to try Rubis (part of Kappa package). Rubis model could be made within few hours and if you have structure map would allow to use it to create more complex grid. you can do creaming curve work, increase in well count vs increase in EOR vs NPV instead of just using your EOR which is based on recovery factor (from analogues?). also easy to run sensitivities, permeability, rel perms, STOIIP, contacts etc.

there are some drawbacks, for instance you cannot (i think) use field level constraint, deviated wells model takes a while to run and possibly others but it could potentially be better than Dykstra parsons and other spreadsheets that some people apply everywhere (although designed for waterflood or strong aquifer). you could check your initial rates from RUbis and generate lift curves in Prosper or other package.
