Question about production profiles

Is there anone here who has experience making expected production profiles (production rates for the lifetime of an undeveloped field). There is limited information about fluid properties, rock properties etc., so I was wondering if it would be worth it to predict production using simulation software (such as eclipse), or if it would be better to use a simpler and more general approach since there are so much uncertainty involved?

The required fidelity of your model depends upon what questions you want to answer. Even if you had detailed data, you may not need to create a complex model, conversely you may be wanting to answer questions that you just don't have the data to reliably do so...... so start with figuring out what are you trying to answer

Typical questions & corresponding typical detail levels required (in order of increasing complexity) are;
Facility concept / Capacities - Tank model with first pass volumes
Development concept - Simple map with 2D seismic/Stratigraphy
Well numbers / phasing - Simulation broken into flow units using a 3D seismic volume for structure
Well planning/infill - Simulation incorporating depositional system, perhaps using seismic properties to guide
Secondary development / infill - Simulation incorporating intra reservoir architecture
EOR planning - Simulation incorporating fine scale internal heterogeneity with detailed core & PVT work

From you level of data, it sounds like you would be limited to development concept type level, if so then no a full simulation would not be required
