Thread: Air mass flow Vs. ambient temperature for gas turbines

  1. Air mass flow Vs. ambient temperature for gas turbines

    Hey guys,

We all are aware that as the ambient temperature increases, the density of air decreases and hence the mass of air being compressed would decrease causing lower power output. Now im trying to simulate a gas turbine using Ebsilon to prove the above statement. Im using GE 9 FA model so I know the following:

Mass flow of exhaust gas: 641 kg/s
    Exhaust temp: 602 deg C
    Ambient temp: 15 deg C

When I simulated the above, I got the air mass being compressed to be around 627 kg/s.

Now I want to simulate the same at 30 deg, hence i need to calculate the air mass flow at this new temp.

    Any suggestions?

It will be less because of the air density. Also you can calculate if you measure the compressor discharge perssure.

Yes, I know that, but I want to know what is the formula used to calculate the new air mass at 30 deg. I remember the formula had density in it and was a ratio between parameters; Im looking for this exact formula.
