  1. Help: Double wall pressure vessel for leak detection system

    Hello mates;

    I have to design a deposit to storage gasoil. The vessel is buried and must have double wall to install a leakage detection system. As per clients solicitations, the inner wall shall be on carbon steel and outer wall can be carbon steel or fiber. The vessel must be desidned under 3 bar of inner pressure.
    I have experience on design pressure vessel but is my first time with double wall ones. I think that for outer wall in carbon steel I have to consider it with full vacuum. But I would like to know if someone has any construction drawing or sketch because I don´t know what clearance I need to keep or what kind of spacers install.
    Regarding to fiber outer wall, it is very interesting because it will allow me to offer a cheaper and lighter device. I was looking for information on the net and I have found that for make the chamber you only need to install the parabeam and later cover with the fiber wall, wich it is dificult to calculate its thikness.

    It would be great if someone can help me because I feel a bit lost.

    Thank you for your time

    Dear victoredc:

    please specify the tank or vessels will be under ground or above ground ,cylinder or rectangualr. in order to advise.

    Hello, the task is not really complicated if you are familiar with pressure vessel design. First design a pressure vessel for internal and external pressure. External pressure design is required to bear the mass of the ground above the vessel. The second part is to design the outer layer. Take a look at how it is done for double skin underground petroleum tanks according to EN 12285-1. The third part is a leak detection system. I know of three ways to monitor interstellar space: vacuum, pressure and liquid monitoring. Vacuum or pressure is very easy to design and implement. Implementation is more or less the same for all systems. good luck

    Dear ,

    The topic is familiar or not familiar , we just try to help you if possible .
    If the vessels will be under ground you should to go to EN 12285-1 or UL-58 and If the vessels will be above ground you should to go to EN 12285-2 or UL-142 all codes have direct table for the thickness of outer and inner skin with check to Roark equation .and leake system this issue should be (acc to EN 13160, class I).
