Thread: [Help] How to control well production in ECLIPSE?

  1. [Help] How to control well production in ECLIPSE?

    Hi everybody !

I'm learning ECLIPSE, and i have a question. How can I control well production and shut-in periods? For example, i have 2 wells, well 1 was produced at rate of 1000 stb/day, when well 1 went to a high WOR, it was Shut in and well 2 was opened.

    thanks a lot!

Not sure what your doubt is but I think that what you want to know is how to set the criteria to automatically shut-in wells based on maximum WOR, or minimum oil rate, or whatever limit you don't want to reach. This criteria can be set at a well level by using keyword WECON, or at a field/group level using GECON, or at a connection level with CECON, all of these keywords are introduced in the SCHEDULE section. Read the Eclipse manual for more details.

    Hi
With regards to wells control in Eclipse, you can control them either by their respective production or injection phases ... (oil, water, liquid, gas) or pressures (BHP, THP) note than you need a lft curve if you choose to control them by THP .. if you have more than one condition than use GRUP .... in WCONPROD or WCONINJE ... you can also control them on a group level ... if you have several wells producing to the same facilities... if you want to prioritize well production compared to the other you can use a "GUIDERATE" formulas where you give credit to less GOR or WCUT producing wells ..you can also use a WELTARG keyword .. to shut a well as suggest previously you can use a WECON .... or I like more the ACTIONX coupled with WELLSHUT this last will shut yr wells following the condition that y suggested in ACTIONX keyword... it s up to you and how you want yr simulation to behave .... cheers

As DAH7542 said, read the manual on the relevant keywords and, if you understand how reservoir engineering works, it should be obvious how you can control well production (WCONPROD) and injection rates, and how you can set cpntrol conditions, such as those based on economic considerations (WECON). There are various level you can set them too, but you need to keep in mind, if you have multiple conditions, which ones take precedence.

Please, @JammyDodger: How do you know or set which of the multiple constraints take precedence?

Read the Technical Description manual, "Well controls and limits" section - best to understand how it works properly, rather than limping through knowing just enough to get a deck working
