Thread: High ECP means High ROP???_

  1. Question High ECP means High ROP???_

    Hello fellows,

This is a question that i have for today, if i have high ECP that means that i coould have high ROP or is it the other way around??

i appreciate you explenations about this topic.

    Thanks,

it has nothing in common! the ECD is about hydraulics so the only thing tha u have to be aware is that the ECD can not be higher that the fracture gradient. The ECD is proportional to the hole size and dristring OD and the flow rate.

To add to @joseluismondragon excellent response, the key factors that affect ECD are the hole depth, the circulation rate, the mud weight, the rheology of the mud, the size of the hole, the OD of the drill string, and the amount of cuttings in the annulus. For a simplified scenario, if the high ECD is due to high mud weight, for instance, then it means you have more overbalance and hence lesser ROP. (ROP decreases with increasing overbalance). However, note that this is just a simplified scenario, the ECD increase could be due to the other factors (other than mud weight); and in such cases may not have any influence on your ROP. You'll be more concerned with trying to avoid fracturing the formation (and triggering lost circulation and potential kick) due to high ECDs.
