Thread: Looking for info about PED directive pressure test value

  1. Looking for info about PED directive pressure test value

    Dear all,
it's my first thread so I apologize if it's not as a thread should be.

We're design a line with Ts= 530 °C and Ps=30 barg. The line will transport compressed air and will be in AISI 304.
We are looking for a hand to define the lowest pressure test value that compliance the normative.
The 97/23/CE (EN 13480-5) state that the pressure test should be:
    P test=max (1.43 * Ps; 1.25*Ps* ftest/ft)
It's not clear whic f test I have to use.

    Someone can help me?
Moreover, someone knows some statement to reduce the P test in accordance with some regulation?

    Thanks.

    Hi Giorgino
The PED is very clear the pressure test to be adopted and used is the highest value of the two.
However, you would need to check and ensure that standard rated parts such flanges are not over stressed due to the test pressure.

f is the design stress, which is calculated in accordance with EN 13480-3 chapter 5.
