I'm not sure what you mean by "finish a simulation model ". I suppose "finish" means to history match the model. If so, right after finishing the history matching, and prior to make any prediction of future performance I always check that the cumulative material balance error (MBE) is less than 1%. This limit might vary from one company to the other, but this is the one I use. Go to the simulator's manual and read how to report this MBE.
First of all first check is inplace numbers they should be close to one you have in geomodel.
the Net volumes and poro volumes will tell how accurate you did upscaling
while different in sw will tell how accurate you done pc functions.
Check your end points ( swi, sor) since they will dramatically effect to sweep factor which will lead to unrealistic forecast recovery factors
Check you real perm curve exponent
If you will have errors during calculation check you pvt and pressure data
Check rock compressability , overestimating of it might result to unrealistic pressure support
Check you permeability with KH test
then check your History production /injection data vs calculated
then check your pressure data history vs calculated.
Once all data is in agreement
Congratulation you set up your model !

Thank you for your great advice
