This book is based on papers presented at the Fourth International Reservoir Characterization Technical
Conference held in Houston, Texas, in March 1997. This was one of a series of conferences sponsored by the
Department of Energy (and the affiliated tutorials, DOE Class Workshop, and poster sessions); these conferences
have been focal points for the discussion of new ideas in reservoir characterization since the first conference was
held in 1985.
This book covers the broad spectrum of topics within reservoir characterization. Following the overview paper
by Fowler and others, the book has been divided into six sections: (1) Reservoir Description, (2)
Enhanced/Improved Oil Recovery (EOR/IOR) Characterization, (3) Methods and Techniques, (4) Fracture
Analysis, (5) Upscaling and Simulation, and (6) Modeling.
