Thread: How to get resolution for reservoir characterization 20 feet thickness sand

  1. Question How to get resolution for reservoir characterization 20 feet thickness sand

    Hi brothers,

I´m in troubbles trying to make an integrated reservoir characterization in an small field in South America. sand is very thin, high permeability good porosity, Low API (18). 3D seismic doesn´t have enough resolution the thickness is 20 feet average. I´m looking for a geology or geophysical (adquisition or processing) method to get more resolution for characterization, I´ve got pretty good logs but difficult to tie with seismic (because of seismic resolution). Target is make static model to simulation, forecast of well locations and production, has anyone an idea?

    regards,

    Carl

Re: How to get resolution for reservoir characterization 20 feet thickness sand

The geophysicist I work with managed to get a very good seismic image of very thin, highly permeable (10 to 30 feet) fluvial reservoirs in South America by conducting attribute extraction from seismic data. The best attribute they came up with, in terms of image resolution enhancement was Coherence. There was a somewhat good correlation between sand thickeness and Seismic Amplitude too. I´m honestly not much into geophysics, but anyway I hope this helps.
