dissertation done for research degree. petrochemical pool fire modeling

    Salaam alikoum,
    need help, please.
First of all, I want to sorry for my bad English, I’m native French speaking. I have to do a dissertation for research degree for my studies (master engineer chemist). I want to do a really good job. The subject is the modeling of a petrochemical pool fire, by empirical model and not by fire dynamic simulator (I do not to take into account the liquefiable products (lng and lpg)) in petrochemical process plan (not into storage plan). For this work I have to take into account the sizing of the leak (in terms of time and volume spilled) on pumps, valves and pipes. I also have to take into account the efficiency of the systems of drainages (Especially systems which are defective because of the grounds which are not more flat and well tilted). The model has to be simple to use because it will by use by engineers for quickly evaluate the potential damage caused by pool fire. The model has to give a good evaluation of damage that could be cause by a pool fire in petrochemical process plan . I had already learn books like Lee’s Loss Prevention in the Process Industries, Guidelines for Fire Protection in Chemical, Petrochemical, and Hydrocarbon Processing Facilities…, There is the Nfpa code and the fm datasheet, there is too publication that are done by Brambilla and Manaca (who where speaking about theories models that are developed by Babrauskas, Al, Burgers, Engelhard, Moorhouse, Brzustowski and Sommer and so…). But I don’t have the experience to do think: like to choose an equation and not the other, for that or that parameter. Whose parameters, I have to take into account for the modeling. Who to connect leaking, spreading, pool size, drainage effect and damage caused on nearby structure and people involved near the fire. After developing my model I have to confront it to real accident case historic.

Here we are. I need most information possible to drive well this work of the end of studies.

    Thank you

    please still not any help

    Dude,

You can use the DNV -Phast software for your fire(pool) modelling Purposes...

abdu el, how are you ?
    You could go to

    Hi abdul,

We welcome you to the group and to have intiated a good subject which already started to get good feedback.

I have been involved in few pool fire modelling of crude oils, but not much into LNG and LPG.

We used to perform using Shell FRED software which is globally recommended for conseuqnece modelling and something similar to DNV PHAST. We also did perform few sensitivities using the equations rather than just running the softwares.

Herewith attached the pages from Shell FRED technical relevant to pool fire modelling which carried the equations. Hopw this might be of interest to you.
