Thread: oil and gas coalescer

  1. oil and gas coalescer

    hello every one:-
Can someone please help me.....I have to design a coalescer which have a tendency to remove oil carry over natural gas .....the oil is carried from reciprocating compressor.....the amount of oil carry over is so less that is 25 litre/day .....Kindly guide me which mist eliminator should be placed the gas is 80mmscfd and operating pressure is 58bar absolute and temperature is 100 oC......which coalescr is used to give me 99% oil free gas....... and please tell me what are the standards available to design a coalescr......I will be very thankful to u

Ok, I was running both recips and screw compressor.
From my experience, you should search for:
    - oil filters in gas reinjection application
    - system of scrubber and fine filter like for screw compressor application; scrubber has a spiral inlet pipe inside vertical vessel and demister plates (removes 95% of oil) and fine filter with appropriate coalescer element (output must be less than 0,1% of oil in gas)

O think the problem is compounded by the gas temperature.... most of the oil would be coming fumes. Cooling before a demister or separator would be required.

I am sure that system with scrubber that I wrote in combination with coalescer element will satisfy. Most screw compressors run over 110degC to avoid water content problem in natural or poorly refined process gas. Pressure is not so critical and also, scrubber will provide additional pulsation protection to avoid downstream vibration problems. Since flow is around 100000Sm3/h, you will require fairly big volume. There are also, packages with mechanical pre filter and a colaescer vessels so in that case just choose some MFG and think only about drain requirements (drain pump or some drain system connection). We have used some Triton coalescer elements with two filter sets in redundant. I recommend to pick some package instead of making one from scratch.
