Post History Matching Softwares and their deficiencies

    Dear all,

I would like to know about the name of softwares used for history matching and their deficiencies. For example what are the deficiencies of Eclipse Office + SimOpt for history matching or what are the deficiencies of MEPO and so on.
    Thanks.

I'm sure they've all got strengths & weaknesses. SimOPT never really got much traction in the industry, which tells me that the deficiencies probably outweighed the strengths (never used it myself). As with most products SLB creates/acquires/resells to fill their gaps (like COUGAR), as long as it is just filling a niche "me too" and does not generate significant revenue then they don't sink enough resources into training staff - consequently they usually die on the vine.

I've used EnABLE extensively (from ROXAR) both for history matching as well as looking at probabilistic envelopes of outcomes, and like it very much - not many weaknesses that I can think of, except perhaps that it does not create a proxy function which you can take and put into Excel - but then again the algorithms it uses are far more complex than traditional multi-variable polynomial equations (Bayesian type stuff) - and it pretty well does most things you want on the back-end, negating most of the need to go to Excel anyway

I have not used MEPO, but one of my colleagues has. I queried him on his experience and he stated that it was very powerful, but then again, he never was able to match his model with it.... I'd be surprised if it was much better than EnABLE but am happy to be proven wrong!

I think it boils down to what you are most comfortable using. In my case with EnABLE, I was lucky enough to have an extended period working alongside one of the EnABLE consultants, meaning I gained rapid experience and consequently now feel totally at ease using it for even very complex problems where custom scripts are required. I'm sure if I had the same intro with MEPO I'd feel similarly about it.
