Thread: Why not use rubber joints with hose clamps?

Why not use rubber joints with hose clamps?

I am looking for rubber expansion joints with straight sleeves to use with hose clamps at 6-10 BAR working pressure. The first reactions are not to do this, but why? Can anyone explain me why I should not do this? When they are tested on burst (3-4 x working pressure) it should be Ok, or not?

The ptoblem is not the joint itself but the clamps! In my experience the pressuure is too high for common designed clamps to seal properly. It will need for a set of special clamps, and it will increase the cost considerably. If there is absolutely no way to use flanged rubber expansion joint, we can take a look at your needs and help you, but flanged joint would be financially more prudent.

We make the same products as Red Valve does plus replacment pinch valve sleeves for valve made by others and steam turbine rubber condenser joints for full vacuum service.

Thanks for the reply. I heard the problem with the clamps before, and even that sometimes two clamps per sleeve where used to enable using them at higher pressures. In the meanwhile we are testing a newly developed joint (bellow with sleeves 6 inch ID at the ends) that does not want to expand/contract under pressure. We are now testing it with single clamps at 40 BAR and it does not pull-off. So, I think we can use these ones.
