Hysys Vs ChemCad Vs Aspen plus Vs ProII

    Dear Software lovers

Plz comment on this new thread to make this thread more informative. According to my knowledge and experience.

Chemcad: is very simple and easy to understand software i would like to recommend beginners to start with chemcad. In this way they can easily understand how to make use of simulation softwares.

    Hysys:
Hysys is very effective software especially for steady state simulation and especially for petroleum products. Relative to chemcad it is a bit difficult to make user interface. Hysys new version with DEtherm interface is quiet helpful to get useful data from the world's renowned data bank.

    Aspen Plus:
Aspen plus is a versatile simulation and design software with friendly interface. It is well known for its excellent simulation engine and variety of processes involved in chemical engineering.

    SimSci-ProII
I do not have much experience with proII. Experts are requested to comment please?

  3. I work with Aspen Plus at my present work and after working with all the present simulators out there at some time or the other, and after doing development work on inhouse simulators, I can quite frankly say that Aspen Plus is the worse I have worked with. Yes it's powerful, and it gets the job done, but it's archaic and requires too much work to match a simulation to plant data. A simple example is mixing aniline with HCL. There is a partial neutralization reaction, with a substantial adiabatic temperature rise. Aspen does not show that. To get that done I have to create Aniline base ions, with heat of formation and then react it with H+ from HCL, plus gives a heat of formation for the ion and use design spec to vary the heat of formation until I get the right heat of reaction. At my job, we now have Chemcad for comparison and Chemcad shows this temperature rise with mixing. No sweat. There are many other examples, where a process simulated with Chemcad, matches the real plant without much work, while you spend days chasing whats wrong with data in Aspen, or the calculation routes and methods its using.

Simply put, Aspen is over rated and overly expensive.

Check this link out, open the pdf file then read the comparison table between the commercial packages on page 3.

Aspen is a good "environment" for the chemicals & polymers simulation, you don't have to find everything in one package, a couple of years ago I tried to use ASPEN to simulate a commercial SWS without success....it's a kind of over rated that's why they acquired Hyprotech packages such as Hysys.

  6. thanks mobek. that is good comparison between 5 simulator.

very good file with reference to comparison, thanks

I find Pro-II to be more simpler and user friendly. Good for a beginner.

  11. What is the best simulator?

    Hi

    What is the best simulator?

In general terms according to my experience is in the following order

    1 .- ASPEN PLUS
    2 .- PRO II
    3 .- HYSYS
    4 .- VMGSim (Creators Hysys)
    5 .- CHEMCAD
    6 .- WINSIM

Behind each simulator is mainly the following:

    A. - Backup thermodynamic software.
    B. - Backup unit operations

Engineering large companies, evaluate the software before buying or using.

You can go to the website of the engineering and construction companies and see the top 10, record their names.

Then go to the website of each of the simulators, look for these engineering and construction companies.

Develop a comparative table, since most companies use more than one simulator.

    Issued its findings

A good reference is the event called Daratech. (done annually)

PROMAX SULSIM are specific simulators for certain processes such as amines and sulfur plants.

I hope this can help them.

You can enter more details, but it would be more of a forum discussion

    Regards

i have worked a lot with Aspen Hysys, also in dynamic mode and i can find it very good, with also non idel cases. I worked tunning diferent kind of controlers and it worked well, i used the "Auto-Tune" tool and also i calculated the tuning values and i gave it and the response was the same. With Pro II and chemcad, you can not work with dinamic processes. aspen engineering suite has also Aspen Dynamics for this specific use but i still prefer Hysys over others simulation software.

  13. Re: Hysys Vs ChemCad Vs Aspen plus Vs ProII

I think HYSYS is hard, and PRO II is easy. At my university, I learned PRO II.

  14. Re: Hysys Vs ChemCad Vs Aspen plus Vs ProII

    Hello mr...!
    i have a little problem.
i can't find a properties of fatty alcohol C12/14 when i try with hysis 3.1.
I want to calculate how much the process variables for column destillation for fatty alcohol C12/14.
    1. Should I match with petroleum derivatives that same carbon chain?
    2. Or enter the value of the properties of fatty alcohol c12/14 handbook
    3. Or use other software like aspenplus
In hysis is more about petroleum.
So anybody can help me? Because my background in oleochemical. thank for your attention sir!
