I've worked with the last three of them and I personally think each one has its own advantages.
I think Hysys has the most friendly user interphase but its greatest feature is how it lets you supply any data for an operation (on inlet streams, outlet streams or operating conditions) and it just solves when there is enough to work with. Its flaw: getting collumns to converge can be really frustrating and annoying sometimes as it is quite picky.
Aspen Plus has the most powerfull simulation engine, options and analysis tools. Its ability to predict properties from structures and solutions phase behaviour is a great tool. But it is too straightforward, you can provide only some specific data and only in a specific sequence for the operations to simulate.
I've used ProII a little less than Hysys and Aspen Plus but I think it would be like a middle point between the two of them, a little from Hysys user friendliness and from Aspen simulation power. The feature I like the most is how easy you can view/edit/add properties and correlations.
I haven't tried ChemCAD but I feel like doing it soon, I'm curious about what it has to offer.
Hysys is mainly for petroleum upstream and downstream processing whereas aspen can be used for almost all type or process streams such as organic, inorganic, petro products.
