Is there a way to inspect gasket? please help

Hi, my name is Nouris and i'm still new in oil and gas industry. I asked my senior about how to inspect gasket, can we do it while doing in-line inspection with Pig tools.. and he said we cant. So can anybody give me an enlightment about how to inspect it or we really cant inspect it? since there are few case on pipeline failure involving gasket..

you can check the following standards:
- API 601 Metallic Gaskets for Piping, 3rd ed. 1972–7th ed. 1988
Replaced by ASME B16.20.
- API Spec 6A/ISO 10423:2009.
- API TR 6AF Technical Report on Capabilities of API Flanges Under Combinations
of Load.
