Thread: How to choose the best location of new development well in the model?

  1. How to choose the best location of new development well in the model?

    hello every body,
I'm working with simulator in order to get the best development plan for a field, i did many runs but i am not able to get a plateau duration more than 2 years with natural depletion.
I changed the position of the wells in order to get the best well location for these new wells.
I m looking for criteria to choose the best well location in a model.
    any reference for that?
please help me i will be greatful

    resengineer;
In the simulation model you need to create a hydrocarbon map that will guide you to choose the best locations for the new wells.

Thank you for your reply Fox,
You mean HC saturation map? if not how to get it?
I looked at HC saturation, porosity map and thickness map also,
Its a heterogeneous reservoir some layer are eroded
How to get the KH map?

Is there any book talking about best well location selection, please i need help?

The simplest way is to run base case till the end
then create the 2D maps of OIP , saturation of oil and pressure
having this maps you will have good guide to plan where to put new wells for best reservoir depletion
When you will make this maps do not forget to whieght the pressure and sat over pore volume

thank you for your reply temr,
I used the static model using Petrel to get average map of saturation and pressure in the model and OOIP map from volume calculation, but I didn't understand why and how I have to weight the pressure and sat over pore volume.
I still need any book or paper talking about that
I m new in reservoir engineering so I don't have any experience
    I will be greatful

It is simple since for example you have 2 cells with pressure 10 and 100 bar if you will average them you will get 55 bar
but what if cell with 100 bar have 0.5 pore volume and cell with 10 bar have 1 pore volume then your average pressure would be
    10*1 + 0.5*100= 60
    0.5+1=1.5
    60/1.5=40
    Think about this
Why you need to wheit over pore volume , because it contains what you are about to develop

and you need to normalize you data to it
