  5. I have some questions, mostly about the SQL server installation:
    1. by downloading the SQL server 2005 express, should i download also the windows installer or any other features (SQL manager) that are mensioned in many guides for SQL installation?
    2. could u post a detailed guide how u installed the SQL server 2005 express step by step, because id like to do it correctly?
    3. did u follow the installation guide that was posted here?? because it says that prior installing SQL or Aspen, i should type this command "net user administrator active: yes" in the black cmd window. is it necessary? because i wouldnt like to f**ck something up in my system. Another thing in the guide is the User Name and Password typing. It says that the user name is "Administrator", but in case of my computer it should be the name I inserted there by the windows installation, shouldnt it?
Ill be very grateful for any other helpful information that come up ur mind.
    Thanks a lot

    1. You just have to download SQL 2005 express. For Aspen v7.2 you also have to download the Service Pack 3 version, but as far as i know, v7.1 do not need this SP3.
    2. I have uploaded the installation guide in

[link Point to another website Only the registered members can access] 3. You don't have to worry about the step of opening hidden administrator. It just open another user, your system will be fine. If your computer name is for example "Peterko" then yes, you should type "Peterko" instead "Administrator" as user name, and if your password is "Aspen" then type it in password blank, and the last, type your computer name (as can be seen in control panel/system) in domain blank.

Hope this will help, happy simulating!!

  7. Thanks ill try it, one last question though. I have windows 7 x64, are there any differencies in the installation process u posted??

i don't found any difference when installing in 7 x64, should you find any trouble, don't be hesitate to ask again. Maybe you can make a note during every step in your installation if you find any differences, so if something goes wrong, i can know it too. I just remember something, if you do not meet the part when you choose the authentication mode during SQL express installation, try to uninstall your last installation of SQL server ( because this happen to me). Once again, happy simulating!!

@pock3tace: I managed to install Aspen v7.1 on Windows 7 x64. It took me like 2 days to figure out all the errors. This is the first one you have to deal with. The problem is that the SQL Manager needs this Backward Compatibility module installed..in x86 form. And the installer of this Backward Compatibility in x86 does not run under x64 OS, hence the error. And the funny thing is, that if you install prior to this the x64 Backward Compatibility, the SQL installer won`t recognize it, it will still give you that error. So, we must trick the system somehow in allowing the x64 Backward Compatibility to be used. For this, search via Google this Backward Compatibility program, find the website and download the x64. After that find in the directories of Aspen DVD kit the 'core' folder and within it the 'SQL2k5Exprs'..now, copy the x64 variant of the Backward Compatibility in that folder, and rename it just like the original one, SQLServer2005_BC.msi, keeping this original one for backup somewhere else. Now try to run the installer again, it should work!
Could u post a link to the file that provides the backwards compatibility mensioned by u???
    Thanks

  11. Re: a-S-P-E-N-O-N-E V 7.1 (2-0-0-9) INSTALLATION COMPLETE GUIDE .XP 3,VISTA,WINDOWS 7

Procedure: 1. Go into the core directory (Aspenoneev7.1dvd1\core\SQL2K5Expr
    2. Rename File: "SQLServer2005_BC.msi" to "SQLServer2005_BC_Original.msi" (do this just in case things don't work)
    3. Download "SQLServer2005_BC_x64.msi" from Microsoft and copy it to this directory
    4. Copy the aspentechaspentech.asme file to a new file named "SQLServer2005_BC.msi" Do NOT rename it! Copy it. Both files (which are identical) must be in that directory for things to work.
    5. Even after doing all of this, I got an error identifying AspenTech.AspenCxs.RemotingService.exe as a problem that took place during installation of AspenPlus and Hysys. I hit O.K. to continue several times and after the installation was completed (even though it reported a problem). Everything appears to work correctly.
sgm2 can you explain Step 4 of your procedure in more detail. Because there is no aspentech.asme file in the DVD installation kit...Also what do you mean by copy it into a new file called "SQLServer2005_BC.msi"?
    Please help!! Thanks.
