Thread: Turbulent Flow in Piping system

  1. Question Turbulent Flow in Piping system

    Hi All,

I am looking for such Piping systems in Process industries (preferably Petrochemical) in which it is required to maintain a tubulent fluid flow.
If anyone has knowledge of that process/area in industries in which such piping is used to accomodate turbulence in fluid.. It will be appreciated if he share his thoughts..

Guide me as you feel better.

    Regards

    Rafi

In process industries, normal flow regime is turbulent flow (without installing any special device). While performing hydraulics, maintain velocity limitaion as per recommended for service and pipe material.

In any process industry, some times devices are used to achieve Laminar flow. usually laminarf flow is a distant phenomenan

Turbulent flow is mathematicaly derived from diameter of pipe, viscosity of media and flowing speed. It is used like the "Reynolds number" (Re). If the Re is lower than 2300, the flow is laminar, the Re higher than 10000 is fully turbulent flow. In industry, most process flow is turbulent flow and can be heard as a typical "hum" in the pipe.
