Centrifugal compressor troubleshooting map

Process Equipment troubleshooting serial

Tip summary
• The objective of this serial is to provide engineers with easy to use root cause analysis maps that can help them to easily troubleshoot the plant equipment and restore the equipment quickly to the good operating condition to save energy & cost.
• In this video we will talk about gas moving devices especially centrifugal compressors troubleshooting.
• Centrifugal compressors major problems root causes can be summarized in the following points:
1. Compressor Surge possible causes:
• Insufficient flow from upstream side.
• Increased discharge pressure required by the system due to change in downstream.
• Deposit buildup in diffuser cause backpressure for the flow outlet.
2. Compressor Discharge pressure low possible causes:
• Could be Instrument error giving wrong indication and need to be checked.
• Could be due to low speed from compressor side.
• Could be due to Excessive inlet temperature.
• Could be due to a Leak in discharge system.
