actually i dont have documents about this subject,
i performed this shifting many times.
the idea is to shift the core depth (driller depth) to match the later recorded open hole log(wireline depth).
when you send the core to core lab, the frist thing they do is recording gamma ray the call it core gamma.
then you can load open hole logs into petrel, on global well log folder, right click and insert new global well log cont., rename it as core gamma
go to your well, right click and select insert core gamma, go to the log and right click.. spreed sheet and past the values of recorded core gamma.
on new well section window plot the open hole gamma and core gamma on the same track, and you can decrease the stretch the log so log details can appear then you can manualy try to shift up or down till match the both gamma records.
after that check the core description (shale, sand, silt,...) is it matched with the petrophysical interpretation of open hole logs.
