My favorite topic. I can briefly summary as follows:
1 - Process simulation in worst case having highest operation pressure ---> MOP (Maximum operating pressure)
2- MOP + Margin... ---> Design pressure (DP)
3 - DP ----> wall thickness (wt0)
4 - wt0 + corrosion allowance thickness ... ----> min Wt (wt1): real WT
5 - wt1 ----> MAOP (or MAWP) by the same formula with step 3
Discussion: New vessel : MAWP > DP. during long period of operation, erosion and corrosion may occur cause significantly reducing in WT ---> recalculate MAWP (a function of real WT) ----> Old vessel: MAWP may/may not < DP ---> consider 1 MOP < MAWP.
Sometime, vessel can operate at pressure which is higher than DP but always kept lower than MAWP.
Conclusion:
MOP < MAOP (MAWP)
MOP </> DP
DP </> MAWP
MAWP is the most important pressure of vessel.
MAWP in anytime shall be larger or equal to DP, otherwise the vessel need repaired, re-rated or retired.
