Thread: How to calculate pressure drop in pipe with multiple outlet branching

  1. How to calculate pressure drop in pipe with multiple outlet branching

    Dear industry experts,

I am faced with the problem of calculating the total pressure drop in an existing cooling tower open loop water spray system. The configuration of the pipe is as below.

[link Point to another website Only the registered members can access]
Water is pumped by two vertical pump arranged in parallel configuration. The water is distributed via common large pipe header where it then branches out to smaller headers which has multiple outlet(header) which feeds the open loop water spray that cools the evaporative cooler. It is assumed that the pressure in the outlet header closest to the main header is highest compared to the one farthest.

I have only so far dealed with pressure drop calculation in single inlet/outlet piping where Darcy-weishbach equation can be applied

i think you can use software " pipe flow expert " for solving this problem.

You also can use Colebrrok & White concept to solve your problem.
If you have the diameters and branching lenght I can help you.
Please send me a message if interesting.
