    Hi famochi,

ISO certification is only a tool where it was designed for an organisation to develop its management system (environmental - 14001 and Occupational Health & Safety - 45001). The standards just give the framework and the requirements.

The key for a success of its implementation is the way you choose the certification process.
Some (if not most) of the organisation choose the normal way, i.e., they focus on issue documents as an evidence that they conform to the requirements of the standard. However, the right way is to establish processes within the organisation that conform with the requirements of the standard. This means that all structure within the organisation understand that their processes conform to ISO requirement and they will deliver the results as ISO wants. The first way is called conformance based certification and the latter called performance based.

I've been through with both methods and the one that add value and cost effective is the second method. It is not easy (because in this way you change the behaviour of the people and the culture of the organisation) but at the end of the day you will get the benefits out of it.

I hope this gives you some insight.

    Have a nice day
    Paul
