Thread: API 5L-ASME B36.10M: still current?

    API 5L-ASME B36.10M: still current?

I am searching codes/standards regarding pipe--specifically, pipe dimensions used across industry. My copy of ASME B16.10M-2004 says that all API 5L sizes are now included in this standard. I double-checked with an older version of API 5L, and they were. But, the 2013 (45th) edition does not give schedules: it says "NOTE Standardized values for specified outside diameter and specified wall thickness of pipe are given in ISO 4200 [7] and ASME B36.10M [8]."

Then I go to ASME's website and I cannot find a way to purchase ASME B36.10M (meaning it is withdrawn?). Even their 2013-2014 catalog does not list it. At API's site I cannot find API 5L for purchase (is it now withdrawn?), but their 2014 catalog does list it. If you are wondering, this post is January 2015.

What gives? Who do I turn to for standard pipe dimensions? Of course I could just go to my pipe manufacturer because I am sure they know more than me. But, mainly I am peeved at how hard this has been for me--so I want to know and see the most up to date code(s) for myself.

Finding current standardized wall thicknesses listed by nominal pipe sizes is being a pain. Please help if you can.

Re: API 5L-ASME B36.10M: still current?

Thanks Mohamad3010, but I do already have API 5L-2013 and ASME B36.10M-2004.

And, I found out I was wrong about ordering 5L on API's site--it is still there. But, as I mentioned, it does not list dimensions anymore and instead refers to ASME B16.10M and ISO 4200. I could really use a copy of ISO 4200 if someone can link that for me. As far as ASME B16.10M, go to ASME's website--maybe it is just my problem but I could not find it there. Please correct me if I am wrong. But not finding B16.10M on their official site tells me there is a new standard for pipe dimensions (the ISO 4200?).

Also, I have to only be concerned about US application of dimensional pipe codes, so maybe ISO will not apply for me.

    Thanks for any help.
