Separator sizing

I am new to oil and gas field and interested to learn relevant eqpt. design and starting with separator sizing. Understod that main parameters would be (but not limited to)throughput, gas-liquid emulsion, liquid carry-over rate and individual retention times of gas and liquid. Can someone share with me some experienced based values or thumb rules which make my job easier to understand as a beginner. Thank you in advance.
