This standards defines risk-based approaches and key elements in the assessment and management of machinery that optimize and improve reliability and mitigate higher health, safety, and environmental risks.
The standard requires assurance of the establishment of an effective risk management program by addressing certain elements. Considerable flexibility is allowed in the methodologies and tools utilized.
The standard is written to cover all aspects of the life cycle and therefore has application for manufacturers, purchasers and users of API machinery, involving new and existing machinery installations. It is intended for use as an overlay to existing API machinery standards with supplemental recommendations appropriate to a subset of higher risk machinery.
