    Acoustic Insulation Thickness Calculation

May I know how to calculate acoustic insulation thickness using silica aerogel flexible insulation (ASTM C1728)material using ISO 15665 for a high temperature (300 deg C)service control valve (letdown) outlet pipe? Thanks

    Re: Acoustic Insulation Thickness Calculation

1st you need to know the noise emission. You need to measure "in site" with a sonometer the noise at every octave band frequency. And you need to correct the level due to the sound in rooms, enviromental noise, ....
You can see that at "Noise control in industry" (SRL- Sound Research laboratories Ltd) pg. 182-185.
You are doing a cladding insulation method.

Thank you JuanPE. I should've given my precise question in the first place. Silicagel (ASTM C1728) being a new material, insertion loss of this material is not available (in ISO 15665) for me to design the insulation thickness/ composition.

See the reference of this article:

[link Point to another website Only the registered members can access] But Silicagel has absorption coeficient to noise, it's not a good insulation to sound.
This material is a good thermal insulation +absorption noise material. (Absorption is related to the room's reverberation time - in your case is the noise into your pipe )
Insulation is related to direct sound transmision between separated rooms, cubicles, pipes, machinery's envelope... to the environment.
(Insulation is a log magnitude vs the absortion coefficient that is a lineal magnitude)

If you buy an insulation material, the manufacturer had tested the material to ISO 15665 or other equivalents codes. (EN, BS, ...)
