Thread: When to use Rv

  1. When to use Rv

Have a question regarding Rv (volatile oil-to gas ratio). Do we use Rv values in the industry? If so, when and how to use the Rv values.

if you have wet gas, and do not wand to go for compositional model

Thank you Temr for the response.

Does the industry uses Rv in practice?

I can not understand your question
    what is industry?
As you know you get your inplace in geomodel
then you run cases in sim model to determine the most efficient for recovery
You can simplify your problem by imitating wet gas by using RV - cons you get best time runs , prons you can not model sweating of condensate , retrograde condensation, cicling process etc
So for you as for engeneer always should be compromise solution

    Re: When to use Rv

In addition to temr's comments, the use of Rv (vaporized oil in gas ratio) allows the oil to vaporized and dissolve in the gas phase. This modification to the conventional Black Oil formulation allows to model volatile oils and wet gases without a rigorous composition formulation. It has its limitations therefore as mentioned above.
