Thread: Pipe rating and pipe grade

  1. Pipe rating and pipe grade

In our project one line is designed to carry sweet fuel gas at 328 barg ,the pipe rating is 2500 psi, as I asked piping department about the difference between the design pressure and operating pressure. I have been told that the pipe is of80 grade line hence no problem, Will anybody please explain how it will work? and what abot the flanges and other piping items of the line?

Re: Pipe rating and pipe grade

    Hi

Design pressure is usually more than operating/working pressure , sometimes designers use a contant 1.5 to operating pressure to calculate the design pressure , after this you can use ASME B16.5 standard to find piping (flanges and flanged fittings) class (150,300,400,600,900,1500,2500)

    Good Luck
