Thread: Calculation of Relative Permeability based on production history

  1. Calculation of Relative Permeability based on production history

    Hi All,

    1) I am wondering if there is a correlation that calculates the relative permeability based on history of saturations production mainly.
I would suggest that this is not a standart Corey or Hanapour correlations, but to deal with a fractional flow which is actually a water cut, and oil with gas production.
That is similar in a way to standart history match process where you modify your RelPerms to fit into a production history, so are there any software tools that may calculate that?

    2) The other question is do you have a step by step guide to QC you RelPerms from a core (or calculated from Corey and fit into core values) compared to fractional flow of production history?

    Thanks in advance,

Regarding point #1, attached you'll find pages 17 to 19 from the book "Relative permeability of petroleum reservoirs" by Honarpour, Koederitz and Harvey.

    Thanks a lot,

I would appreciate if the water/oil rel perms will be sent as well.
As far as I understand formula (22) vs. Sl (24) will give krg/kro vs. Sl, which may be used to check if core meacurements are ok. But how to separate krg vs. Sl, and Kro vs. Sl for a simulation run.
    Same for oil/ water..

    Thanks in advance,

    Dear A_rammm85,

Being honest I've never used such method. The book by Honarpour only covers krg/kro vs Sl calculation from field data as you pointed out, but it doesn't cover krw/kro vs Sw calculation. The author refers to another book (Modern reservoir engineering: a simulation approach by Henry Crichlow) when discussing krg/kro vs Sl calculation from field data. Maybe in that book you'll find the description of the method for oil/water. Unfortunately I don't have the book written by Crichlow. Let me know if you get it. I'll try to contact one of the specialist in the company I work for. I'll reply if I get more information.

Re: Calculation of Relative Permeability based on production history

Well, if you have oil and water production you can calculate water cut
as far as i remember knowing oil and water viscosity and fraction you can back calculate relative permeability.
as for end points this is now way to calculate them only from lab data or analogs.
