Best entry into oil and gas industry

    Dear EGPET,

I am looking at entering the oil and gas industry int he UK and considering the best route to do this. I am generally looking for advice about possible courses I can take to refresh my knowledge and gain experience.

I have a Bachelors in Chemical Engineering and a Masters in Petroleum Engineering. I was never able to work after the completion of my masters (2 years ago) due to personal reasons.

I am now looking at getting back into the industry. I have an interest in working offshore (potential in a drilling related position) and would like to know about short courses and technical training to get me up to speed. I am aware I might need to take courses like Basic Ofshore Safety etc.

I look forward to all your kind replies.

    Thank you.

I'm not from the UK but I have seen several UK based internships and apprenticeships. I know it may not be what you want but try to get into the industry any which way you can and then you can move up to your desired career. Aside from education, the main issue employers have is lack of experience. Even entry positions are asking for 3-5 years direct experience. Internships or apprenticeships are usually a good route to go.
