Thread: Startup Operation of Centrifugal Pumps

  1. Startup Operation of Centrifugal Pumps

    Good day to all,
I would like know what are the effective steps to start a centrifugal pump? Should the discharge valve be throttled before starting the pump? If Yes/No . Please explain both cases?

    Dear,
A small pump ie 5 kw need not to throttle but big pump need.
Consider at pump curve, if you do not throttled valve the pump will be run a few minutes then motor overload.
This is because the pump experience an Overflow, running too high flow rate at low head. In all automatic mode, this is a must do.
For small pump, you start the pump, the pump can fill pipe to make enough back pressure in time.

You can status a centrifugas pump without control valve if You put a vfd on the motor. In This case You control the speed pump
