Hello Friends,

You should use the design code for the pressure vessels. Usually it tells you if you need or not a relief valve as part of its design. The asme code recommends to uses a relief valve for almost all the pressure vessels rather than 15psi (I don't remmember the exactly number) and the API, it has more or less the same pressure. But you need to know, also, the final use of the pressure vessels and its criticality in the operation to define if you need or not a relief valve.
Dear jorge_mar73,
What if I have a design pressure of 20 barg, and criticality rating of 1. It is a H2S scrubber vessel in which the H2S inlet content is 190ppmv and the H2S outlet is desired to be 3.4ppmv.
