I need help with selection of drill bits and drill bits optimization.

Hi Pawel,

Not such an easy subject with a short answer. Probably wells have been drilled before in the same area. Have a look at what bits they used and with what bit grading they came out of the hole and try to learn from this.

If you plan to use a tricone and long life is an issue especially when using a mud motor and you don't mind to spend a bit more money go for a Hughes or Smith bits (personal preference....others for sure will have different opinions).

If the section is long and would take multiple bit trips with a tricone generally you would then opt for a PDC bit...

Before drilling you can also get in touch with bit providers and ask them to make a recommendation / bit programme / price list for you.

there is a book from the heriot watt univ drilling engineering there is a module about drilling bits, it could give you a fair and good idea about bits, try to download it and read it
