Here's the hardware and licensing requirements for the APM/HPM I/O Simulator from the MU-SWSM22 manual:

Hardware requirements:

The minimum hardware you need for the installation and operation of the APM/HPM I/O Simulators is as follows:
• Local Control Network (LCN)
• Network Interface Module (NIM)
• Universal Station (US)
• Advanced Process Manager (APM)
• High-Performance Process Manager (HPM)

A History Module (HM) is not required, but provides ease of use.

Software requirements: Release 500 LCN and UCN software is required.
Compatibility: The APM/HPM I/O Simulators are compatible with LCN Release 500.
