  1. Lightbulb Quick Opening Closure(Q.O.C) Design Calculations

    Quick Opening Closure(Q.O.C) Design Calculations
My company has grab an order for 14 nos. of Vertical Filter Separator vessels. in these vessel Top end shall be equipped with Q.O.C to enable quick access inside the vessel internals.
    Vessel size is 16"OD x300# (Design Pressure 35barg @65degC, MOC:Carbon Steel).
Can any body help in how to perform Q.O.C design calculation.
Some reference calculation PDFs or excel. We don't want to purchase it from other vendors in order to save the cost.
Design Code ASME Section VIII Div.1.Vessel shall be ASME code stamped with 'U' Designator.

If your company can't provide your own calculations for Q.O.C., how can you assure that the Q.O.C. design calculation being obtained from somewhere are accurate and valid? Think about it, your approach is risky. If i am your client i'm not going to give you the order. you're putting yourself in jeopardy.

totally agree. consider also the risk to user if the 'unproven' QOC suffers a failure resulting in serious incident.

duazo2009 yes i totally agree with you on the validity of the calculations obtained from somewhere.
Well the order involves 14 nos. of Q.O.C's and cost will be very high if one will go for makes from Piping Technologies/G.D engineering or R&M Energy Systems.
My company wants me to develop the design from first principle. It isn't going be easy for me.
Any suggestion welcomed on how & where to start.
i think cover will be designed as per UG-34.
What about locking arrangement, O-Ring selection. Do one proceed considering appendix-2 of code.

Price of Q.O.C. during quotation or bidding stage should be considered as separate vendor supplied product as you are not in the Q.O.C. manufacturing business. it is a matter of investment, if you think that a huge order of Q.O.C. will be regularly ask by your client say 1000 units every six months for the next five years, then i'll advise you to develop such product, but if the ordered quantity is only 14 nos for the past six months, then it is better to purchase it to a legitimate manufacturer as their product is already guaranteed. don't waste your time while the delivery period is running out.
