Thread: Gate Valve Solid Wedge and Flexible Wedge

  1. Gate Valve Solid Wedge and Flexible Wedge

    Dear All
i need to get some info, between Gate Valve with Solid Wedge and Flexible Wedge, which one is the better solution, and why?
I have a problem with the Client and i would like to explain to the Client that we can use Solid instead of Flexible.
    Thank You

Re: Gate Valve Solid Wedge and Flexible Wedge

A flexible wedge has a cut around its perimeter allowing the seating surfaces of the disc to flex. The advantage is that such wedge "gate" is able to conform to the seats and shut off tightly; such internals of valves allow (limited) deflection from piping loads, thermal distortion, machining tolerance.
A solid wedge just has to be brute-forced into the seats and may not shut off as tight.
As a result, on small sizes it is accepted solid edge (<NPS 4) while NPS 6 and larger it is usual to consider one piece flexible wedge.
