Liquid outlet Nozzle Sizing

Dear forum members,

I am dealing with a bit of a difficulty. Most of the specifications calls that liquid outlet in process vessels is to be sized to give a maximum velocity of 1 m/s. Can this criteria relaxed somehow. if anybody came across something relevant please advise.

You have to be more specific. What type of process vessel are you talking about? A vapor liquid separator, a surge tank, a decanter?
