I need a sincere assistance from experts

Dear All,

As a matter of fact, i am a new pie to piping and pipeline engineering. My problem is that i am working with a company that has chilled water network and fuel hydrant/farm networks and currently i have been assigned to work in a newly awarded project (Fuel Hydrant System) and for the last 3 weeks i read all the specifications and tender documents of the client and i am totally lost; because i found thousands of standards and codes that i need to read and understand. Though, i started searching for each standard/code i found in the tender documents but i can't understand all of them because they have bulk information and now i need to participate in design phase.

I need your help in such a way that from where i can start reading to understand what is going on and do you recommend me any special book or spread sheets that i can get to understand the system. Shall i memorize all standards and codes ASME/ASTM/API/SP, etc!!!! What is the best way to start over!!!

Furthermore, i am a mechanical engineer (Fresh graduate) and know nothing about this field.

There is no need to to memorize all standards and code. Do the project task, maka a list what you have to do and then go step by step from one problem to another. As you are coming to the problems and requests go to appropriate standard and obey it. Also, ask some grey hair guy to help you. It is not shame to say that you don't know something.

I agree with you 200% that i will go through the project task step by step and i am not shamed to say i know nothing, but i need a reference book that i can read to understand the basic fundamentals of all these codes and standards. This is all i am asking for.

Dear silentmoon80, don't expect to have all in one book. There is so many books in internet which can help you to understand the basics. Ask for e.g. understanding P&ID, piping terminology, ANSI, ASME, API, NFPA...etc. Getting idea? If there is something particulary that you need help for, please send request to hbili@yahoo.com. If me and anybody in my company know answer, you will got it. OK? Be ready to work hard. And ask!

Just to clarify - the grey haired guy hbili refers to needs to be an experienced engineer in the engineering discipline not any grey haired guy because some grey haired guys know nothing about piping engineering!!!!

Please start and understand on Scope " or coverage of each Code before you proceed to others.
In certain case or contract Client may referring to the wrong Code : and you deserve to be in Blank' if that case happened.
