Hi Guys! I'm Chalil from the Philippines. I'm new here so can anybody help me figure things out here?

I want to study BS Petroleum Engineering though I'm already a college graduate. My father wants me to study an Engineering course for he himself was an engineer. He recommended to me that I should first study Mechanical Engineering first before venturing out to Petroleum Engineering..I just want to ask is this a good Idea? Or would it be better if I will study Pet Eng without going through Mechanical Eng? Please help...
